Election Commission directs for paid holiday in Ward limits

Mysore/Mysuru: With the by-poll for MCC Ward 36 scheduled to take place on Sept.3, the Election Commission has directed all Government Offices, Educational Institutions, Public Sector Units and Private Companies and Offices to declare a paid holiday for their staff  on that date in order to enable them to cast their vote.

In a release, the Commission’s Under-Secretary said that as per Karnataka Municipal Administration Act of 1977 and Representation of Peoples Act 1951, it is mandatory for all Public Sector and Private Sector Units, Offices, Industries and other commercial establishments to declare a paid holiday for their staff, daily wagers and other workers to facilitate them to take part in the election. The declaration of paid wage holiday is applicable to all Offices and establishments coming under Section 25 of Negotiable Instruments Act, 1881, the release said.
