Bengaluru: The Karnataka Pradesh Youth Congress Committee (KPYCC) workers on Friday staged a protest rally to mark Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s birthday as “National Unemployment Day”, demanding suitable jobs for all graduates in Karnataka.

PM Modi turned 71 on Friday. The rally began from Bengaluru City Railway Station and culminated at Freedom Park along with hundreds of Youth Congress workers.

The Indian Youth Congress (IYC) President B.V. Srinivasa said the party is planning to make the protest into a movement like Mahatma Gandhi’s Quit India Movement.

“All are fed up with the Modi-led Government. People are waiting for an opportunity to show him the door. We will certainly intensify our stir,” he said. Srinivasa said the stir would primarily focus on Modi’s failure to provide “14 crore employment” in 2014.

“It is roughly estimated that nearly 20 crore people have lost their jobs since the BJP came to power at the centre,” he said.

KPYCC President Raksha Ramaiah alleged that the country was witnessing a steep rise in crime rate ever since the pandemic broke out in March 2020.

“The country’s crime rate has gone up by 33 percent and this shows that the steep rise in unemployment and rising crime rate is a most worrying factor. Hence, the Union Government led by Modi must take steps to correct his socio-economic policies,” he stated.
