Manual scavenging: Police team formed to nab Gram Panchayat President

June 26, 2017

Mysuru:  A Police team has been formed to nab Chamundi Hill Gram Panchayat (GP) President S. Geetha, who is accused of forcing a Pourakarmika into a manhole for cleaning and absconding since 17 days.

Though there is a strict law restricting manual scavenging in the country, GP President Geetha and PDO Anand had forced Pourakarmika Ganesh to get into a clogged manhole and clean it manually.

Ganesh had given his statement to the Investigation Officers that he was forced to get into the manhole and clean it and a case was registered at K.R. Police Station in this regard.

The Police had arrested PDO Anand and had released after interrogation as per Court’s order, but the GP President had gone absconding since then and the Cops were waiting for her to depose before them.

As Geetha did not appear before them and is absconding since 17 days, a Police team has been formed to nab her.
