Bahuroopi ticket sales launched

Mysore/Mysuru: The city’s theatre repertory Rangayana on Wednesday  launched ticket sales for the ten-day ‘Bahuroopi’ National Theatre Festival to take place at Rangayana on Hunsur Road in city from Mar. 11 to 20.

Rangayana Director Addanda C. Cariappa gave the first ticket to noted theatre personality Nagachandra at Rangayana to launch the sale.

Addressing a press meet here yesterday, Addanda Cariappa said that the price of ticket for all plays is Rs. 100 per head. The tickets can be purchased at Rangayana counter or can be booked online  by logging on to Rangayana, Mysuru website, starting  from Mar. 4.

The theatre lovers can watch plays on the specific dates and time. However, entry will be free for cultural events such as Bayalata, Doddata, Bombeyaata, folk performances and International cinema shows, he noted.

Pointing out that the theme for this year’s ‘Bahuroopi’ theatre festival is ‘Motherhood’, Cariappa maintained that the 10-day festival will be inclusive of all sections of the society and involvement of everyone.

Stating that the festival will have plays that will be performed exclusively by transgenders and women, Cariappa called upon everyone to participate in the event.

Contending that the theme’ Motherhood’ has got widespread commendation, he said that Da.Ra. Bendre’s ‘Ilidu Baa Thaaye, Ilidu Baa’ song will be the invocation song for the event.

“For the first time, plays will be staged at Rangachavadi. Also, five plays will be staged on select dates and it is special to note that some of these plays are being staged for the first time,” he said.

Asserting that there will be 64 stalls for the event, he said that 16 of them will be food stalls, five will be reserved for demonstration of arts and the rest will be let out for sale and display of artworks, books, desi clothes and such others. “The ten-day theatre festival (Mar. 11 to 20) is expected to cost about Rs. 50 lakh. However, the estimate is likely to go up as there are more programmes. Apart from students of various colleges and CAVA students, amateur artists too will be taking part,” he said.

‘Rangayanadangaladalli Janapadaru’ on Mar. 5, 6

Cariappa further said ahead of Bahuroopi, ‘Rangayanadangaladalli Janapadaru’ a two-day folk event will take place on  Mar. 5 and 6.

District Minister S.T. Somashekar will inaugurate the event at Vanaranga in Rangayana premises at 4.30 pm on Mar. 5, while renowned folk artiste Sobaane Gowramma will launch the performances. Prior to the inauguration, folk artistes will take out a procession from Kote Anjaneyaswamy Temple at the Palace North Gate at 3 pm, which will be flagged off by MLA S.A. Ramdas, he added.

Rangayana Deputy Director Nirmala Mathapati and Bahuroopi Rangotsava Convenor Anju Singh were present.
