Winners of Rajiv Gandhi Cup Football Tournament

The Tamil Nadu’s Women Police team and Bengaluru’s Austin Town team have emerged winners in Women and Men Division of the State-level Rajiv Gandhi Cup Football Tournament organised by Mysuru District Rural Youth Congress Committee at the Railway Grounds on Manandavadi Road here yesterday.

In the finals of the three-day tournament, the Tamil Nadu’s women defeated Bengaluru’s Modern Girls’ team 10-7 points. Mythri of Modern Girls team and Shravanya, goalkeeper of Tamil Nadu’s Women Police team, bagged the Best Performers award. National Youth Football players Simran Bhargav, Triya Menon and Indumati were felicitated on the occasion.

Men’s Division: In the men’s final match, Bengaluru’s Austin Town team defeated Bengaluru Railways team 4-2 to become champions.

Addressing the gathering after distributing prizes to the winning women’s team, KPCC Working President R. Dhruvanarayan said that it is for the first time that a State-level Football Tourney has been organised by Mysuru District Rural Youth Congress Committee in Mysuru.

Pointing out that football is the most popular sport in the world, Dhruvanarayan said that many teams from other States had participated in the tournament which is laudable.

District Congress President Dr. B.J. Vijaykumar, Youth Congress District President Donald F. Nirmanik, Youth Congress leaders Pradeep, Deepak Shivanna, Amjad Khan and others were present during the prize distribution.
