No lights in Oval Grounds

April 27, 2022

Sir,

It is astonishing to observe that there are no lights in the Oval Grounds in Mysuru. There are a number of students aspiring to become sports personalities and they do have to pursue academics for having a professional back up.  These students will have to go to colleges during day time and pursue their sporting activities in the evenings or in the early morning hours.

What is disgusting to note is that the Oval Grounds does not have proper lighting mechanism to light up the arena. Me being a sports person during college days, now having lost the touch and wanting to get back in shape professionally, went to Oval Grounds at  5 am to notice to my surprise that it is all dark. If there were some centralised lighting mechanism, students can pursue their activities after college hours, till late in the evening or start early at 4 am.

On behalf of other sportspersons, I request the Mysore University authorities to do the needful. The sprinklers are in place, but then nobody turns them on. If the ground attendant can turn on the sprinklers for half an hour in the afternoons, the ground will be lush green and attractive, thus motivating the sporting fraternity. I am surprised why none of the sporting fraternity raises concerns about these simple issues, which makes a lot of difference. The ground does need some cleaning and maintenance.
