National Symposium on Material Science held

Material Science research has emerged as major component of research: Prof. K.S. Rangappa

Mysore/Mysuru: JSS College of Arts, Commerce and Science, Ooty Road, had organised a KSTA sponsored two-day National Symposium on Material Science recently.

Prof. K.S. Rangappa, former Vice-Chancellor, University of Mysore,  inaugurated the event.

Speaking on the occasion, he said that Material Science is a multidisciplinary component of current thrust area of research in Science and it will emerge as a major and significant contributor to the society. He also spoke about the role of metals, ceramics and polymers in the overall development of fundamental research ultimately for the benefit of the society.

He highlighted the ceramist who makes ceramic products and silicone breast implants made out of polymers.

As a Chemist and Chemical Biologist, Prof. K.S. Rangappa highlighted the outcome of research in the recent green nanotechnology. Besides, he stressed on the opportunities and wide scope of research in the field of Nano-material Science.

Prof. B.V. Sambashivaiah, Chief Executive of the College, who presided, said that Applied Physics and Chemistry are the two principal and dominant domains in the field of Material Science research. He explained the process involved in fabrication of  nano-materials via greener approach and highlighted the outcome of lithium-ion battery.

Prof. M.P. Vijayendra Kumar, College Principal, welcomed.  Sannidhi & team rendered the invocation. Dr. N. Vijendra Kumar compered. Dr. L. Mallesha, Convener and Dr. N. Rajendraprasad, IQAC Coordinator, were present. Dr. M. Mahadevaswamy proposed vote of thanks.

The faculty members and researchers from different parts of the State and over 120 students of the College and other institutions participated.
