Organisations stage stir against textbook revision

Mysore/Mysuru: The city on Thursday saw a series of protests against school textbook revision. Urging for scrapping of Rohith Chakrathirtha headed Textbook Revision Committee, members of University of Mysore Research Students Association and Dalit Students Federation, staged a demonstration in front of Dr. B.R. Ambedkar’s statue in Manasagangothri campus.

Charging the ruling party of imposing its ideology and agenda on students through textbook revision, the protestors strongly condemned the Government for defending the said Committee.

Association President Nataraj Shivanna, Hon. President Mahesh Sosale, office-bearers J. Shivamurthy, Rajesh Siddappaji, Sanjay, Abhilash, M. Manu, Mallesh, K. Mahadevaswamy, Chandru, Maniyappa, D. Jagadish and others were present.

In another protest over the same issue, members of the City Congress staged a demonstration in front of Dr. B.R. Ambedkar statue at FTS Circle on Mysuru-Bengaluru Road.

Accusing the Textbook Committee of dropping lessons on great saints and personalities such as Basavanna, Kuvempu and Narayana Guru, the protestors demanded the resignation of Primary and Secondary Education Minister B.C. Nagesh.

Congress leaders Ankaiah, Udaykumar, Vishwaraj, Rohit, Irfan and others took part. 

Kannada Sahitya Parishat

Strongly condemning the attack on Kannadigas at Belagavi and distortion of Nadageethe, the District Kannada Sahitya Parishat staged a demonstration at Gandhi Square.

Addressing the protestors, Parishat President Maddikere Gopal said that the distortion of Kuvempu’s Nadageethe is an insult to the great poet. As such, the Government should order a probe and punish the guilty.

Kannada Sahitya Kalakoota President M. Chandrashekar, Mugur Nanjundaswamy and others were present.

Adi Karnataka Maha Samsthe

Alleging irregularities in MCC regarding implementation of 24.10 percent SC/ST development plan, members of Ashokapuram’s Adi Karnataka Maha Samsthe staged a protest in front of MCC Main Office yesterday.

Accusing the MCC of rendering injustice in implementation of SC/ST welfare schemes, the protestors warned of initiating a legal battle if the MCC continued with its apathy and lethargy.

Samsthe President C. Vijaykumar, office-bearers C.M. Mahalingu, M.N. Shivaprasad, Suman and others  took part in the protest.
