Prompted by K. Chandrahas’ letter in Star of Mysore dated May 19, I would like to draw the attention of Railway authorities to two important observations and suggestions.

1. Both Chamundi and Rajya Rani Express trains carry the same formation of the coaches. While the latter train’s name-board is displayed on the coaches, Chamundi’s name is conspicuously missed out (sorry if I have missed to see all the coaches of the train).

If my observation is correct, kindly rectify the same. It is the first of a few trains starting daily in the morning and it does not augur well to miss the name of the most powerful Goddess (Chamundi).

2. Reserved coaches of the above trains, namely D1 and D2 are located very near the engine along with the AC coach.

Length of the train being so long, 21/22 coaches, and the location of the coaches being far away from the entrance at Mysuru, it is very difficult to walk the distance by the aged and such other passengers.

Battery-operated vehicle is not always available for all. Further, at the destination, namely KSR Bengaluru, the difficulty becomes worse, because of the train reaching 9th or 10th PF (Platform) and huge crowds all along the PFs. It is important to note that the lift facility is available only in the centre of the PFs. Also, the KSR Metro bridge connecting the main line is at the rear end of the trains when proceeding from Mysuru. This makes it doubly difficult for Namma Metro-bound passengers and many do so for the sake of safety and faster travel.

I therefore suggest to slightly alter the formation with a couple of reserved coaches at the rear end of the train as well as the front end. Those with the intention of taking the Metro may be given a choice to seek preference in the rear coaches, while booking at the reservation counters.

Shortage of TTE (Travelling Ticket Examiner) etc., may be the reasons for clubbing all the reserved coaches together at one end. But what about the passengers’ problems?
