Kidnap and Assault: Three of a family kidnapped from Mysuru, assaulted in Chamarajanagar for loan default

July 6, 2017

Mysuru: In an inhumane incident that is sure to shake the conscience of a civilised society, a couple was kidnapped from Mysuru and taken to Chamarajanagar along with their 4-month-old child and brutally assaulted for not repaying a loan. The couple, along with the child, was bundled into a vehicle and the kidnapper showed no mercy on the woman whose clothes were torn as she was being pushed inside the vehicle.

The incident occurred at Udayagiri on Monday (July 3) and the couple has been identified as Suhel, his wife Syeda Misba and their little child who has a liver-enlargement problem. Suhel is the resident of Shanthinagar 3rd Cross at Udayagiri.

Suhel had borrowed Rs. 2.70 lakh from one Amjad Ullah Khan from Chamarajanagar and had paid Rs. 1.20 lakh and was due to pay the remaining Rs. 1.50 lakh. Amjad was frequently demanding Suhel to repay the pending amount and had even threatened him of dire consequences if the payment was not made.

In a complaint with the Udayagiri Police, Syeda Misba has stated that they were staying in Chamarajanagar earlier and had shifted to Mysuru recently to get their child treated for  liver complications.

Police said that Amjad was the prime accused in the murder of Chamarajanagar City Municipal Council President Mohammed Asgar in 2011. Amjad was arrested and was released on bail. He was also an accused in the kidnap and murder of two Mahajana College students in Hunsur in 2011. Amjad managed to obtain bail in this case too.

Learning that Suhel and Syeda Misba had taken up a house at Shanthinagar (Udayagiri) in Mysuru, Amjad came with a few of his aides to their house in a jeep on July 3 and picked up a fight with the couple. Amjad and his gang later forcibly carried Suhel, his wife and child into the vehicle and pushed them inside. In the process, Syeda’s clothes were torn and she pleaded that she be allowed to change.

Syeda told the Police that despite pleading that their child was not well and needed treatment, they were pushed into the vehicle which sped away to Chamarajanagar. At Chamarajanagar, the family was taken to a house at Sarfunnissa Nagar.

The couple’s ordeal began here as they were tied to two poles and assaulted. Amjad then directed his men to leave the child outside the house under hot sun. They were not given food for the whole day and were constantly abused and assaulted.

Suhel’s father, who learnt about the incident, rushed to Chamarajanagar on July 4. He pleaded with Amjad that he would stand guarantee for the pending amount and would pay it soon. After much convincing, Amjad released Syeda and the child but refused to leave Suhel.

After securing the release of his daughter-in-law and the child, Suhel’s father came to Mysuru and rushed to the Udayagiri Police Station where Syeda lodged a complaint and said that Suhel was still in Amjad’s custody.

Acting on the complaint, the Udayagiri Police formed a team and rushed to Chamarajanagar yesterday. They asked Suhel’s father to telephone Amjad and tell him that he had come with money. As Amjad arrived at a place to take the cash, the Police arrested him. The Police later released Suhel. Amjad’s accomplice Deepak and others are absconding.

Santhosh, Sub-Inspector Jayakeerthi and staff Puttaraju, Gopalaswamy and Chandraswami participated in the operation.
