Retired Forest Officers’ team visits Tibetan Settlement in Bylakuppe

Bylakuppe: A group of retired Forest Officers, who have served across the nation, led by Dr. Chandrashekar (IFS Retd, Goa) visited the Monasteries at the Tibetan Settlement in Bylakuppe recently.

 Dr. Chandrashekar shared his views on the rapid urbanisation in the nation and the potential solution to developing a sustainable ecology model alongside. He said that every citizen should plant one sapling with the collective aim of 100 crore trees across the nation.

The team visited the Kagyu Nalanda Institute to experience the work on sustainable ecology based on a social model championed by the Institute’s Chairman Karma Samtenlingpa Rinpoche.

Karma Rinpoche with a team of scientists, Lamas and local volunteers have afforested over 100 acres of deforested land and scientifically assessed the progress of the effort for over twenty years. The collective effort for the mission by eminent scientists, experts and environmentalists Yallappa Reddy, Prof. Ravikumar, Dr. Chandrashekar, Kupendra Reddy, Dr. Deepa Prakash and others with Karma Rinpoche was appreciated by the visitors.

Dr Chandrashekar and his colleagues also planted a sapling in front of the Nalanda temple and joined in the water conservation programme of the temple. Karma Rinpoche expressed gratitude to Dr. Chandrashekar and team for their lifetime service to ecology and environment both during their service in the IFS and post their retirement too.
