Wild elephant raids Fair Price Shop

Saragur: A wild elephant, which raided a Fair Price Shop located at Manuganahalli in Saragur taluk on Monday night by breaking open the rolling shutter of the shop, has damaged many equipment besides ransacking food grains stored in the shop.

The elephant, which raided the Fair Price Shop belonging to Padmamba, feasted on about 20 sacks of ragi besides damaging a laptop and weighing equipment.

Villagers claimed that the wild elephant has also damaged crops and solar fence at several places before raiding the Fair Price Shop. They urged the Forest Department authorities to prevent wild elephants from straying out of the forests. Range Forest Officer (RFO) Madhu Mahadevaiah and staff, Food Inspectors Veda Kumar and Anasuya conducted an inspection.

A case has been registered at Saragur Police Station.
