Vokkaligara Sangha Director booked on charges of cheating

November 26, 2022

Bengaluru: A Director of Karnataka State Vokkaligara Sangha at Bengaluru and his wife have been booked by the Police on charges of cheating a person to the tune of Rs.35 lakh on the promise of getting medical seat for his (person) relative at Kempegowda Institute of Medial Sciences (KIMS) at Bengaluru, which is run by the Sangha.

M.B. Manjegowda, the Director, who is from Mysuru and his wife Meena, are the ones who have been booked.

One K.R. Srinvias, a 58-year-old Contractor of  Bengaluru, approached Manjegowda seeking a medical seat for his relative at KIMS, which is run by Vokkaligara Sangha, of which Manjegowda of Mysuru is a Director.

Manjegowda had claimed that he is the head of the Nursing College run by the Sangha and as such he can influence the KIMS administration for getting an MBBS seat. Therafter, Manjegowda asked Srinivas to meet him at a Hotel in Bengaluru. As told, Srinivas went to the Hotel on Mar.7 and paid Rs.35 lakh in cash to Manjegowda and his wife for getting the seat, when Manjegowda couple asked him to come to the Sangha Office three days later.

As directed, Srinivas went to the Vokkaligara Sangha office three days later, when he was asked by Manjegowda to come after a week. Later, Srinivas got worried as he did not get the promised seat for his relative. After coming to know that the admissions at KIMS had closed, Srinivas felt cheated and  went to the residence of Manjegowda at J.P.Nagar in Mysuru and asked him to return the money (Rs.35 lakh), when he was abused and threatened by Manjegowda, his wife Meena and others.
