Chamarajanagar: Mysuru-based rationalist Prof. K.S. Bhagawan had a brush with a herd of wild elephants during a safari at K. Gudi Range of the Biligiri Ranganathaswamy Temple (BRT) Tiger Reserve. The rationalist and his team narrowly escaped.
Recently, Prof. Bhagawan, along with his companions, went on a safari to the BRT Tiger Reserve in Chamarajanagar district and they witnessed a herd of elephants, including a baby elephant. Seeing the jumbos, the safari-goers began clicking photos and shooting videos.
As the safari vehicle continued moving forward, one of the frightened female elephant charged towards them, seemingly to protect the baby elephant. The driver, however, quickly reversed the safari jeep to avert any attacks. The elephant continued to chase the vehicle for a while.
The elephant, which chased the vehicle for a distance, gave up later and entered the woods. Fortunately, everyone in the vehicle managed to escape from the perilous elephant attack and those who witnessed the terrifying incident shared it with others.
The video of this incident has gone viral on social media. Dalit leader Paapu, who had accompanied Bhagawan said that there were six to seven elephants in the herd and one of them suddenly moved towards the vehicle. The driver’s presence of mind averted a tragedy and fortunately, the vehicle did not fall into a ditch, he added.
