Mysore/Mysuru: Denying the allegations that Access-Controlled 10-lane Mysuru- Bengaluru Expressway is built in an unscientific manner, Mysuru-Kodagu MP Pratap Simha has dared the detractors to prove their claims.
Speaking to media in the city this morning, MP Pratap Simha said: “The increase in accidents is due to overspeeding, with vehicle drivers moving in a reckless way.”
When asked about ADGP (Traffic and Road Safety) Alok Kumar inspecting the Expressway yesterday in the wake of rise in fatal accidents of late, MP Pratap Simha reiterated that ‘let anybody prove it to be unscientific, we shall ask the contractor to take corrective measures.’
Continuing, the MP said that it has been planned to build approach roads to the Expressway at an estimated cost of Rs. 420 crore by acquiring the required extent of lands.
Simha, who held a meeting of Railway Officers at Divisional Railway Manager (DRM) Office on Irwin road in the city, to discuss about the ongoing PM Gati Shakti project, said ‘It has been planned to build three entries to Railway Station, with one entry on the lines of Airport terminal with shopping mall and cafeteria.’
The Railway Officers apprised the MP about the progress of the works with a power point presentation. To commemorate the contributions of Mysore Maharajas to Railways, it has been planned to install a statue of Sri Chamaraja Wadiyar at the entrance to the Station.
South Western Railway, Mysuru Division DRM Shilpi Agarwal, Unit Head and Chief Project Manager of Gati Shakti Vishnu Bhushan and other Officers were present at the meeting.
Serious driver education campaign is critical for the proper use of the expressway/highway. Shift from a traffic jammed bumper to bumper 20Km/hour driving to 110Km/hour is a sudden and quantum leap for our Region. After all this is our first high speed high way. It is unfortunate that our drivers would want to learn only via the hard way of accidents, injuries and loss of life. Now that they have seen enough number of accidents, hope they will learn to respect and follow the traffic rules, play it safe not only for themselves, their kith and kin but also for all the other road users. They should realise that arriving at a destination safely a bit late is better than never.
The Express Highway is one of the best things to happen on that stretch. However, some drivers seem to have forgotten the driving etiquettes. Overspeeding, driving in the direction of the incoming traffic, overcrowded/filled vehicles blocking the driver’s view are just a few conditions adding to the cause of accidents. Strict adherence to rules is needed.
Even I have driven in that highway almost 5 times. I have noticed one thing. Many a driver’s don’t follow lane discipline. And overspending is there. And bikers are not trouble. The car drivers who don’t follow lane discipline are the trouble. Seriously something has to be done regarding this .
Hello posters
I have visited your city nany times, and know of trains and highways.
Indians are gripped with car culture-it works in the US, but India is so hugely populated that cars for every one means chaos and congestion, even if this expressway had 16 lanes.
Youare assuming that you Indians follow the rule of law, which I find surprising.
Given that India is mired in corruption, and riles breaking is so common., one must be in a dream land
to expect educating or warning drivers make them to abide by the traffic rules.
This highway is a huge mistake, as it gives drivers independence to behave in a number of irresponsibke ways.
The best approach was to have quadrupled the rail track between Mysore-Banaglore , with different schedules of express trains-some non stop, some with just 2 stops for commuters, and the rest scheduled for notmal travellers.
