Mysore/Mysuru: The students’ protest, seeking postponement of degree exams of University of Mysore (UoM) citing non-completion of lessons because of holidays, has met with success as Varsity authorities have postponed the examinations to Aug.1.
Degree students of various Colleges led by the District Committee of All India Democratic Students Organisation (AIDSO) had staged a protest in front of Crawford Hall, the administrative office of the Varsity on July 17 and again on July 21 urging UoM authorities to postpone the examinations.
“The classes were conducted barely for two months, with the syllabus remaining incomplete which was the reason for anxiety among students. Hence the students had demanded to issue a circular for postponing the exams. They also alleged that the lessons which should have been completed in four months, were completed in just two months, that too inadequately. We don’t want several months time, give us at least another 15 days time,” the protestors had demanded.
Responding positively to the protest held on July 17, UoM Registrar had assured them that the University will take a decision in this regard in two days. When that did not happen, students again assembled at Crawford Hall and demanded that a circular be issued immediately. The Registrar then announced that the examination has been postponed to Aug.1. The District AIDSO Committee had termed it as a victory for students protest.
President of AIDSO District Committee Subhash, Secretary Chandrakala, office-bearers Nithin, Swathi, Chandrika, Hemalatha and students from Maharani’s, Maharaja’s and Government Degree College, Kuvempunagar participated.
