Fraudsters posing as CBI Officers extort Rs. 2.95 lakh from trader

Chamarajanagar: In yet another case of miscreants cheating people online, fraudsters, who made a trader believe that they will purchase old coins and currencies at a higher price, called and threatened the trader by posing themselves as CBI Officers and have extorted Rs. 2.95 lakh from him.

The trader, who was cheated, is 48-year-old Ravikumar Rao, a resident of Nayakara Street in the town. Ravikumar, while browsing YouTube channel, came across an advertisement, which stated that old coins and currencies will be purchased at a higher price. He then contacted Mob: 99574-91251, which was mentioned in the advertisement.

Ravikumar was told to send the photos of old coins and currencies on WhatsApp. The fraudsters then fixed the price for the coins and currencies and told Ravikumar that they need to make a badge from the coins and asked Ravikumar to transfer Rs. 650.

After getting the Rs. 650 transferred, the fraudsters got some more money transferred from Ravikumar as fee and later began to call Ravikumar from various mobile phone numbers, threatened him by posing as CBI Officer and got a total of Rs. 2,95,200 transferred from Ravikumar. After coming to know that he has been cheated, Ravikumar has lodged a complaint at Chamarajanagar District CEN Police Station.
