Mysore/Mysuru: Vidwan T. Narayana Shastri Pratishtana, Mysuru, is organising an “Ekavyakti Tala-Maddale” Yakshagana presentation at Sangeeta Kalanidhi Sri Mysore Vasudevacharya’s house on Thursday (Sept. 28).

The play, titled “Koushika – Saatvika”, is being presented by Divakara Hegde, supported by Anantha Hegde Dantalige, as ‘Bhagavata’, on singing and  Anantha Padmanabha Ghatak on maddale.

The about 2-hour play is scheduled to start at 10 am and is open to all art-lovers.

Sri Acharya’s residence is situated near Basaveshvara Circle on New Sayyaji Rao Road.

A drama or an episode that can be enacted, presented in the expressive-oration format devoid of physical acting is termed a Tala-Maddale in Yakshagana tradition. Most usually, a Yakshagana text is modified and developed by the presenters to suit oral narration for the purpose.

Recitation supported by singing (bhagavatike) and an instrumental ensemble will be engrossingly enchanting.

In the “Eka-vyakti” play, one single artiste will handle the roles a multiple number of characters. The play being rendered by Hegde at Acharya’s house will present the story of ‘Mahabrahmana’ Koushika Muni, who challenges the self-proclaimed authoritarian powers of Vasishta Muni.

Divakara Hegde, the exponent of the play, hails from Siddapura in Uttara Kannada district and has championed this art form for a long time. He has served All India Radio for over three decades and is presently a Programme Executive at the Mysuru Station. He has authored many dramas, Yakshagana plays and ballets.

Anantha Hegde, the ‘Bhagavata’ for the presentation, hails from Yellapura and serves                       the famed ‘Keremane Yakshagana Mela.’

Ghatak, who plays maddale for the play, hails from Karkala and has been in the Yakshagana field for decades. He has worked in association of greats like Dr. Shivarama Karanth and Mantapa Prabhakara Upadhya.
