CIIL’s two-day summit in Delhi on Indian language & technology

Mysore/Mysuru: Under the guidance of the Ministry of Education, Government of India, the Central Institute of Indian Languages (CIIL), Mysuru, is organising a two-day Summit on “Technology & Bharatiya Languages” on Sept. 30 and Oct. 1 at Dr. Ambedkar International Centre, Janpath, New Delhi, as part of the 75-day Bharatiya Bhasha Utsav from Sept. 28 to  Dec. 11, 2023.

This event will be conducted in collaboration with the University Grants Commission (UGC), All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE), National Educational Technology Forum (NETF), Bharatiya Bhasha Samiti (BBS), National Council of Educational Research and Training (NCERT), National Council for Vocational Education and Training (NCVET), and National Council for Teacher  Education (NCTE).

The Summit’s primary objective is to discuss strategies for implementing the goals outlined in the National Education Policy-2020 (NEP-2020).

The programme will encompass presentations, panel discussions, exhibitions and networking opportunities. Participants will include technical experts and institutions specialising in technology related to Bharatiya languages, as well as researchers in artificial intelligence and machine learning, educational technology companies, startups, users, and policymakers in this domain.

The Summit seeks to facilitate the exchange of ideas, foster collaboration among attendees, and advance language technology, research and innovation in India and beyond. It will focus on using technology for Bharatiya languages in teaching, testing, training and translation.

Teaching includes online and offline language learning and teaching, the development of learning materials, and pedagogical approaches, testing includes methods and assessments for different levels of language proficiency in Bharatiya languages, training includes pre-service and in-service training for language and subject teachers, master trainers, textbook writers, examiners, and language assessment experts using technology.

Translation includes the development of translation tools and a skilled workforce of translators for Bharatiya languages, along with assessing technology needs, creating digital translation manuals, and utilising technology.
