Mysore/Mysuru: The Titular Head of Erstwhile Mysore Royal Family Yaduveer Krishnadatta Chamaraja Wadiyar performed Ayudha Puja to the Pattada Kaththi (Royal Sword) and other weapons at Palace on Monday (Oct. 23), in keeping with the age old tradition.

Like every year, Yaduveer performed puja at Kalyana Mantapa and Savari Thotti to Pattada Aane (Royal Elephant), Pattada Kudure (Royal Horse), Pattada Hasu (Royal Cow) and the fleet of vehicles used by the family.

The rituals began with Chandika Homa at Kalyana Mantapa at 6.30 am, after the arrival of royal elephant and Nishaane Aane, Royal Cow, Royal Horse and Camel, along with Royal Sword and Khasa Ayudha (Personal weapons) that were later taken in a procession for puja at Kodi Someshwara and Kodi Bhyraveshwara Swamy Temples, within Palace precincts. Kalasha puja was also performed, so also to the well.

Women carrying Kalasha came in a procession with elephant, horse and cow and camel along with personal weapons and the idol of the God to Aane Bagilu (Elephant Door) of the Palace. The Priests, who received the entourage, took the idol to Kalyana Mantapa, to perform Poornahuti to Chandika Homa. While the royal elephant, cow and horse were taken to Savari Thotti.

Yaduveer performed puja to royal sword, gurani (armour) and other weapons belonging to the kings of Yadu dynasty to which Wadiyars belong to, followed by puja to all types of vehicles belonging to the family.

Royal Family Member Pramoda Devi Wadiyar, Yaduveer’s wife Trishikha Kumari and son Aadyaveer Narasimharaja Wadiyar witnessed the ceremony from the upstairs window. Trishikha also captured the moments on her cellphone camera.

The Private Durbar of Yaduveer, that is conducted during Navarathri every year, also concluded with the ritual of Simha Visarjane (removal of Lion’s idol from the Golden Throne) last evening. The Kankana (red colour cloth tied on right wrist) of both Yaduveer and his wife Trishikha were removed at Devara Mane and Vanivilasa Devara Mane respectively.
