DC Dr. Rajendra mulls over incorporating Chhattisgarh model to address menace of plastic waste in Mysuru

Mysore/Mysuru: Deputy Commissioner Dr. K.V. Rajendra has said that “The District Administration is mulling over replicating Chhattisgarh model to check the menace of several tonnes of plastic waste generated in city.”

He was speaking during a meeting on ‘Systematic Management of Solid and Liquid Waste’ held at Mysuru City Corporation (MCC) meeting hall in city on Friday.

Sharing the details regarding the new and innovative project implemented by the Municipal officials at Ambikapur in Chhattisgarh, Dr. Rajendra said, “The project is effective not just in checking the menace of plastic waste, but also in catering to the hunger pangs. Likewise, those who collect plastic waste and hand it over to the concerned, will be provided free meals at Indira Canteens here.”

“A healthy environment with a hygienic atmosphere can be created by the management of solid waste in a systematic manner. The waste collected at home should be segregated as dry and wet waste and waste rendered useless before disposing them. There should not be any pile up of waste in public places,” instructed the DC.

MCC officers should take steps to ensure that Mysuru will be free from waste to bag Cleanest City Award again. The coordinated efforts should be made in this regard by contributing personally to achieve the task.

There are heaps of wastes at prominent places in city severely inconveniencing the public and spoiling the environment. Hence regulatory measures should be taken by identifying the source of waste, advised Dr. Rajendra.

Apart from officials, the role of public is also pivotal in the eradication of plastic waste to make Mysuru as a top Clean City again. A target has been set to achieve seven star ratings in Clean City Survey in the coming days and to reach the target everybody should work responsibly.

There has been an increase in usage of plastics and adequate awareness should be created among the public to make Mysuru, a plastic free city. That apart, we should explore the possibilities of recycling the types of plastic waste towards building a healthy environment.

The officers of all the 65 wards of MCC should discharge their duties without giving                                     room for complaints and take up development works at every stage, he said.

Ahead of forthcoming Dasara festival, the cleaning works should be taken up in city in advance to ensure that tourists and general public should not feel embarrassed.

Sindhu, MCC Additional Commissioner Kusuma Kumari, MCC Health Officer Dr. N.P. Venkatesh, MCC Assistant Engineers, Assistant Executive Engineers and Engineers were present at the meeting.
