Blessings of gurus vital for students’ bliss: Folklorist

June 6, 2024

Mysore/Mysuru: Noted folk singer Malavalli Mahadevaswamy said that the blessings of Gurus (teachers) is a bliss for the life of students.

He was speaking at the valedictory of extracurricular activities of the current academic year of Maharani’s Arts College for Women at Nalwadi Krishnaraja Wadiyar auditorium in the college campus here recently.

“Parents take great pains for higher education of their wards. The students should always keep in mind the pains of their parents in nurturing them. The students should study hard and make efforts to fulfil the dreams of their parents,” Mahadevaswamy said.

Pointing out that, it is good if the educated youths get employment after completion of education. If not, they should look at self-employment, he added.

“There are ample opportunities in Arts too and one can lead a life out of it. I myself is a perfect example of this. I learnt folklore as a means of livelihood. Now this is leading my life,” he noted.

“Miracle saints like Lord Mahadeshwara, Manteswamy, Yediyur Siddalingeshwara etc., spent their entire life walking to villages and towns carrying a ‘Jolige’ (a long cloth bag) to seek alms and for educating the people on the values and virtues of life. In modern times, personalities such as Mahatma Gandhiji, Jawaharlal Nehru, Dr. B.R. Ambedkar etc., involved themselves in freedom struggle and dedicated their life for the cause of equality. But now, people have become so selfish that they think they should only live, with little space for all others,” he lamented.

Principal Prof. B.V. Vasanthkumar presided.
