Mysuru:  A 20-year-old youth, who ventured into the waters in Varuna Canal here, has been swept away and the Police have launched an operation to fish out his body.

The youth has been identified as R. Manoj, son of Rajamani, a mechanic and a resident of R.S. Naidu Nagar in city. Manoj was a final year B.Com student at JSS College on Ooty Road here.

On Friday, Manoj, along with four of his friends went for a swim at Varuna Canal near Kesare. As water was left to the canal two days ago, water was full and was flowing in full force, Manoj’s three friends decided not to venture into the waters and Manoj alone entered the water for a swim.

As soon as Manoj ventured into the waters, he was swept away due to the force even when his friends were watching. Soon, his scared friends informed the matter to Manoj’s family members.

Following which Manoj’s family lodged a complaint with N.R. Police and the Cops searched for him in vain. The Police and the family members have urged the public to contact Mob: 99862-87715, in case they have information about Manoj.
