Renovated meeting hall of MMC&RI inaugurated

August 25, 2024

Mysore/Mysuru: The newly renovated meeting hall at the Mysuru Medical College and Research Institute (MMC&RI) Platinum Jubilee Auditorium at J.K. Grounds was inaugurated yesterday by Star of Mysore and Mysuru Mithra Founder-Editor Dr. K.B. Ganapathy.

The renovation was funded by a Rs. 12 lakh donation from Dr. C.D. Sreenivasa Murthy, Hon. President of the Mysore Medical College Alumni Association (MAA).

Speaking as the chief guest, Dr. Ganapathy expressed concern over the deteriorating condition of many of Mysuru’s 131 heritage structures. He emphasised that conserving these buildings requires adequate knowledge and urged financially capable individuals to contribute towards their preservation, praising Dr. Sreenivasa Murthy for his generous donation towards the meeting hall’s renovation.

Industrialist Dr. M. Jagannath Shenoy, who also spoke, underscored the importance of maintaining MMC&RI, which is celebrating its centenary, for the next hundred years. He highlighted the significant contributions of the Mysore Maharajas to the college, which is a source of pride for every Mysurean.

Dr. Shenoy added that proper maintenance is crucial for conservation and called for collective efforts to preserve these historic structures.

The event was also attended by former University of Mysore Vice-Chancellor Prof. K.S. Rangappa, MMC&RI Dean and Director Dr. K.R. Dakshayani, Adichunchanagiri University Vice-Chancellor Dr. M.A. Shekar, JSS Medical College Principal Dr. H. Basavana Gowdappa, MAA Working President Dr. H.N. Dinesh, Secretary Dr. H.B. Shashidhar, Treasurer Dr. Sarvesha Raje Urs and others.

Temple of knowledge

The Mysore Medical College, established in 1924, was the seventh medical college in the country and the first in the State. It stands as a testament to the vision of Nalwadi Krishnaraja Wadiyar. When I was approached to contribute to the renovation of the meeting hall at MMC&RI Platinum Jubilee Auditorium, I readily accepted. This is a small contribution to the temple of knowledge where I studied.
