Mysuru: Swarasankula Sangeetha Sabha, which is dedicated to promoting Hindustani Classical Music since its inception in 2004, is organising a grand vocal recital by Pt. Veerabhadraiah Hiremath, a popular name in Hindusthani Music circles, on Sunday (Sept. 22) at 6 pm at Ganabharathi’s Veene Seshanna Bhavana, Kuvempunagar, Mysuru.

He will be accompanied by  Pt. Shreerama Bhat on harmonium and Pt. Ramesh Dhannur                         on tabla.

Artistes profile: Pt. Veerabhadraiah Hiremath is a disciple of Gaanayogi Padma Bhushana Pt. Puttaraja Gavai of Veereshwara punyashrama of Gadag. After completing his music training, he spent  a few years in teaching music at his alma mater which moulded him to become a good teacher and performer.

In the year 1993 he came to Mysuru as a teacher through Saptaswara Balaga. Later he established his own Swarasankula Hindustani Sangeetha Shale through which he has trained hundreds of students.

He is well-known as a vocalist and  a harmonium accompanist. He has given performances on prestigious platforms across the country. At present he is under the tutelage of Pt. Indudhara Nirody, a doyen of Agra Gharana.

Pt. Veerabhadraiah has  contributed towards the Bhatkhande project by playing harmonium where Pt. Indudhara Nirody has audio recorded about 1,896 compositions (Bandishes) collected and compiled by Pt. V.N. Bhatkhande.

Pt. Veerabhadraiah  has received many honours, titles and accolades — ‘Gaanashree’ from Ganagand  Harva Kala Trust, Gadag, ‘Puttashree’ from  Shri Guru Ganalahari Music Academy Bengaluru to name a few.

Pt. Ramesh Dhannur, an accomplished tabla player, is a product of Veereshwara punyashrama, Gadag and trained under Pt. Gaanayogi Puttaraja Gavai. He has accompanied many senior artistes on prestigious platforms.

Pt. Shreerama Bhat, a noted vocalist in both Karnatak and Hindusthani styles, has given concerts at prestigious platforms and has accompanied many senior vocalists on the harmonium.
