Elderly man dies of bee attack

Gonikoppa: An elderly man died after he was attacked by a swarm of bees at Nittur Karmad village in Ponnampet taluk of Kodagu district yesterday.

The deceased is Kottangada M. Poonacha (Poomani), a resident of the village. He was 72.

He is survived by his wife Reshma (Chimmunira), children Milan Mandanna and Kilan Machaiah.

Poonacha, who alighted from a bus, was walking on Kalabhyrava Temple Road, when a swarm of bees attacked him, resulting in him sustaining several bee stings.

Though he was being rushed to a hospital at Gonikoppa, Poonacha is said to have breathed his last midway. Last rites were held at the village this afternoon.
