Advocates want exemption from professional tax

November 21, 2024

Mysuru: Demanding exemption from professional tax, advocates staged a protest under the banner of Mysore Bar Association, in front of Mahatma Gandhi’s bust, near Law Courts complex on Krisnnaraja Boulevard in the city yesterday.

The advocates boycotted Court proceedings and gathered in front of Gandhiji’s bust and raised slogans. The professional tax of Rs. 2,500 earlier charged for the advocates, who have completed practicing for 10 years, is now being levied for the advocates practicing since 2 years, with the notices being served in this regard.

The advocates argued that ‘We strive to provide justice to people, but what shall we do when we face injustice.’

President of Mysore Bar Association S. Lokesh, Secretary A.G Sudheer and hundreds of advocates took part in the protest.
