Nanjangud: The driver of the Innova Muti-Purpose Vehicle (MPV) was killed on the spot while seven members of a family sustained serious injuries when a large container which was being transported in a truck fell on the MPV on Bengaluru-Ooty Highway near Sinduvallipura in the taluk yesterday.

While the deceased has been identified as Dinesh (32), the injured are Tejukumar, his wife Akarshitha, son Rushanth, Tejukumar’s brother Kushal, his wife Manasa, daughter Rithanya and Tejukumar’s relative Madhushri. The injured have been admitted to a private hospital in Mysuru.

It is learnt that Tejukumar and his family members were travelling towards Himavad Gopalaswamy Hills in the Innova MPV with Dinesh behind the wheels when the truck transporting the large container hit the Innova on Mysuru-Ooty Highway near Sinduvallipura resulting in the container falling on the Innova vehicle, killing Dinesh on the spot and injuring seven persons seriously.

Meanwhile, public, who assembled in large numbers, lifted the container fallen on the Innova and rescued the seven persons trapped inside and helped in shifting the injured to a private hospital in Mysuru.

Nanjangud Traffic Police, who reached the spot, conducted mahazar and have registered a case in this regard.
