Mysore/Mysuru: Another incident of a senior citizen being targeted by criminals using the fake accident narrative was reported yesterday morning in V.V. Mohalla.
The incident occurred when a 64-year-old man was travelling in his car along Adi Pampa Road. A tall, slim-built man, aged around 28–30 years, attempted to extort money from the senior citizen by accusing him of causing an accident.
The senior citizen recalled that he was driving slowly on the narrow road around 10.15 am when he suddenly heard a “thud” sound. Having read about similar scams in Star of Mysore, he did not stop and continued driving.
However, he was soon waylaid by the man, who entered the car and alleged that an accident had occurred near the Adi Pampa Road Junction.
Remaining calm, the senior citizen refused to yield to the accusations and asked the man to bring the alleged victim to the spot. The accused, claiming that the person was lying on the road, bleeding, demanded that the senior citizen drive back.
The senior citizen then informed the man that he would call the Police and follow proper legal procedures if an accident had indeed occurred. At this, the man suddenly switched to polite language and left the scene on his motorcycle, advising the senior citizen to drive carefully.
