Combing operation on to trace mother tiger

Chamarajanagar: Forest Department staff have rescued three tiger cubs which were separated from its mother.

The Forest staff, who were on their routine patrolling on Punajanoor-Bedaguli connecting road in Biligiriranganatha Tiger Reserve (BRT) on Oct. 13, observed two tiger cubs moving around at Bajebavi Forest Area.

The staff, who continued their patrolling till Kappina Kanave Forest Area, returned on the same route and again saw the two cubs on the same road. The staff then inspected the surroundings but did not find the mother tiger and immediately informed their higher officers.

Based on the instructions from the higher officials, the staff installed camera traps at the spot and surroundings to monitor the movements of the mother tiger.

As per National Tiger Conservation Authority (NTCA) guidelines, a Standard Technical Guidance and Monitoring Committee has been formed to supervise the tracing of the mother tiger and also to monitor the cubs.

Combing operations were conducted yesterday with the help of domesticated elephants Bhima and Mahendra to trace the mother tiger, during which one more cub was found.

The Forest Department is continuing the combing operation today also to trace the mother tiger and reunite the cubs.

The three cubs are said to be 30-days-old and are under the care of Veterinarians.
