Child abduction foiled at City Railway Station

October 23, 2025

Mysuru, Oct. 23 (RK&BCT)- An attempted child abduction at the Mysuru City Railway Station was foiled by the alert personnel of the Railway Protection Force (RPF), who swiftly identified and arrested the suspect within hours by tracking CCTV footage.

The incident took place yesterday around 5.20 am, when a woman allegedly tried to abduct a six-month-old baby boy who was sleeping beside his mother, 38-year-old Jasmin Taj, in the station premises.

Jasmin Taj, wife of Hiyash Khan, is a resident of Ijur in Ramanagara district.

According to the RPF, the distraught mother was seen crying near the portico area of the Railway Station when RPF staff C.M. Nagaraju, who was on duty, noticed her distress and rushed to enquire. Jasmin told him that she had fallen into a deep sleep early in the morning and woke up to find her baby missing.

Acting promptly, Nagaraju alerted Assistant Sub-Inspector Prasi and the Inspector on duty, following which the team immediately began scanning CCTV footage from the station. The visuals showed a woman, aged around 50, carrying an infant covered in a blanket and walking towards Platform No. 6, apparently attempting to board Train No. 16206.

The RPF team intercepted the suspect before she could board the train. She was later identified as Nandini (45), wife of late Suresha, and a resident of Ward No. 22, Mochi Colony, near Dandi Maramma Temple, Pension Mohalla, Hassan.

CCTV evidence confirmed that Nandini had taken the infant without the mother’s knowledge. However, during questioning, she denied the kidnapping attempt and claimed that she had only picked up the baby to feed it milk from a nearby counter as the child was crying.

Baby handed over to mother

The suspect was taken to the RPF Post for further inquiry. Meanwhile, the RPF traced the anxious mother and her relatives, and the baby was safely handed back after Jasmin Taj positively identified her child.

Further investigation was carried out by RPF Inspector Dinesh Kumar, in the presence of a Lady Sub-Inspector, following due procedure.

Subsequently, the Mysuru Government Railway Police (GRP) took cognisance of the case and registered Crime No. 25/2025 under Section 137(b) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) for kidnapping from lawful guardianship. The accused was produced before the Court, which remanded her to judicial custody, while the infant was safely reunited with his parents.
