October 26, 2025

Mysuru, Oct. 26 – It is important for people to learn about administration of first aid in case of accidents when doctors are not available on the spot at industries or any other places, said Dr. B. Prakash of St. John’s Ambulance Association.

He was speaking at a one-day workshop on Industrial First Aid organised by National Institute of Personnel Management (NIPM), Mysuru Chapter, in association with Department of Factories and Boilers, Government of Karnataka, Mysuru Division at Rotary Mysore Centre on JLB Road in city yesterday.

Explaining about first aid, Dr. Prakash said at times of accidents, administering water to victims can prove dangerous as there were changes of water entering the wind pipe which can be life threatening. He also said that in case a person suffers a deep cut, one should apply firm, direct pressure to the wound to stop the blood flow.

“Learning about administration of first aid can help in saving lives at times when doctors are not available. Providing details about the victims’ health history to doctors at the hospital will help in providing accurate treatment,” he added.

Stating that it was important to observe facial changes of the victims, Dr. Prakash said for a person suffering from breathing issues, the face would turn blue and similar in case of a snake bite. The face will turn pale on person becoming unconscious and red in case of head injuries.

He also explained frothing from the mouth can also be observed during a snake bite or when a person consumes poison and also foul smell from the mouth when a person consumes poison or narcotic drugs. Later, Dr. Prakash explained about first aid using presentation. Department of Factories and Boilers M.S. Mahadev and others were present on the occasion.
