Mysuru: In a bid to encourage youths from across the country to come together on a single platform to learn about different cultures of our country, promote peace and understanding and inculcate a sense of belongingness, Youth Hostels Association of India (YHAI) has organised a ‘National Youth Convention 2017’ in Mysuru.
The event was inaugurated yesterday at International Youth Hostel premises in Gokulam and the Convention will end on Sept. 16. Over 130 youths from across 22 States are taking part in this one-of-a-kind initiative. Almost 50 of the participants are women.
Inaugurating the Convention, Mohammad Shafi Pandit, National President of YHAI, heaped praises on the scenic beauty and rich cultural traditions of Jammu and Kashmir. Youths from South India have to visit Jammu and Kashmir to learn about the unique traditions and likewise, youths from Jammu and Kashmir must visit South India. In this way, there will be a healthy exchange of culture, he opined.
Former MLC D. Madegowda who is the President, Karnataka State Branch of YHAI, National Chairman Venkat Narayanan, National Treasurer Manoj Johri, National Vice-Presidents K. Purushotham and J. Shine and Gokulam International Youth Hostel President Ravikumar were present on the dais.

In his welcome address, Venkat Narayan said that keeping in view the development of the youths who are future leaders of India, YHAI had organised this first-ever National Convention. This event aims to educate the youth to become excellent leaders and inculcate a sense of belongingness, peace and understanding for each other for growth of the nation and promote the spirit of adventure sports in them, he said.
D. Madegowda said that such conventions promote national unity and integrity as the youths from across the country get a chance to mingle with each other and exchange ideas. Such conferences must be organised in a large scale nation-wide as it develops leadership and team-building qualities among youth, he said.
Other speakers commended the YHAI office-bearers for organising such an event and appreciated them for their efforts of taking forward the organisation’s core philosophy of helping young generation to gain a greater understanding of the world and its people through hostelling and adventure activities.
The inauguration ceremony was followed by a traditional Kamsale dance performance.
