Cyber Crime: Conmen misuse bank logo, cheat senior citizen of Rs. 12 lakh

Mysore/Mysuru: Online fraudsters, by misusing the logo of a Bank, have cheated a senior citizen of city by transferring over Rs. 12 lakh from the senior citizen’s Bank account.

The senior citizen, who was cheated is 67-year-old Ramesh (name changed), a resident of Gangothri Layout in city.

On Dec. 12, Ramesh received a message on his WhatsApp from a number which had the logo of Union Bank of India as the Display Picture (DP). The message asked Ramesh to download VYOM App and update his Bank details.

Believing the message, Ramesh downloaded the App in APK file format and updated the Bank details. Later, an amount of Rs. 10 lakh and again Rs. 2,09,300, totalling Rs. 12,09,300 got transferred through Immediate Payment Service (IMPS) to an unknown Bank account.

Realising that he has been cheated, Ramesh has lodged a complaint at city’s CEN Police Station.
