Mysore/Mysuru: The Mysuru City Corporation (MCC) had organised a day-long Capacity Building Training Workshop on Solid Waste Management for Pourakarmikas under Swachh Bharat Mission 2.0 at Hemavathy Auditorium in Administrative Training Institute (ATI) on Lalitha Mahal Road in city this morning.

Swachh Bharat Mission 2.0 aims to create garbage-free cities by 2026 through 100 percent waste processing, sustained sanitation, used water management, citizen participation and digital innovation for cleaner and healthier urban spaces.

The workshop was inaugurated by MLC C.N. Manjegowda.

Speaking at the workshop, Regional Commissioner (RC) Nitesh Patil described Pourakarmikas as real heroes and said that without their hard work it is impossible to project Mysuru as a clean city.

“Because of the dedicated efforts of civic workers, Mysuru has bagged the special honour of a clean city. When your experience is combined with scientific methods, it helps achieve skill development. That is why workshops like these are organised. There is lack of awareness among citizens about cleanliness and there is a need to create more awareness,” said the Regional Commissioner.

Stating that MCC is ready to give quality safety equipment to Pourakarmikas, he said, “there is no dearth of funds and we ensure that civic workers are allowed to choose quality equipment for their safety. We also have plans to develop colonies to civic workers and provide them with facilities like gym, auditorium and club house,” he added.

State Institute of Urban Development (SIUD) Director Ashaad-Ur-Rahman Shariff, who also spoke said, “We need to believe in our ability and then only we can achieve anything. When Mysuru city slumped to 23rd position there was widespread criticism. After that, everyone worked hard day and night to bring Mysuru to the 3rd position. We need to ensure that Mysuru is not placed lower than that and we should start using technologies for waste management that are implemented at many places.”

MCC Health Officer Dr. Venkatesh, MCC Zonal Commissioners K. Ramesh, Manjunath Reddy and Ravikiran and others were present on the occasion.
