Mysore/Mysuru: Kannada writer Dr. Ne. Gu. Ramesh has been selected for the Ratnakaravarni-Muddanna Award (2024-25) instituted by Kannada Sahitya Parishat for his poetry work ‘Gandhimara.’
The selection was made during the two-day meeting of the Award Selection Committee held on Jan. 21 and 22 at the Central Office of Kannada Sahitya Parishat. The Committee, chaired by eminent scholar Dr. K. Marulasiddappa, unanimously chose ‘Gandhimara’ for this year’s award.
Profile: Dr. Ramesh hails from Neelakanthanahalli village in Nagamangala taluk of Mandya district. He is currently serving as a Kannada Lecturer at Government PU College for Boys, Hunsur and resides in Mysuru.
Alongside his academic career, Dr. Ramesh has made significant contributions to the field of literature through his poetry, criticism, essays, columns and research. He has published 18 books including poetry collections — Gandhimara, Deepa Dveepagala Naduve and Gulaganji.
In the field of research, his notable Kannada studies include works on Muktaka literature, epic poetry, short epics, narrative lyrics and modern Kannada poetry with special reference to water conservation, which have drawn considerable scholarly attention.
His essay collection ‘Nelada Nantu’ reflects a deep engagement with the land and its people. He has authored biographies such as ‘Lokopakara A. Rangaswamy’ and ‘Mahamauna’ and has edited works including Nagamangalada Nelaprajne, Abhivardhana, and Paripoorna Arogya.
