Mysore/Mysuru: Prof. K. Ramakrishnaiah assumed charge as the Vice-Chancellor of Karnataka State Gangubai Hangal Music and Performing Arts University, in city yesterday.
This follows a notification issued from Raj Bhavan, with Governor Thaawarchand Gehlot, also the Chancellor of the University, appointing Prof. Ramakrishnaiah, as the Vice-chancellor of Music University.
The outgoing VC Prof. Nagesh V. Bettakote handed over the charge to Prof. Ramakrishnaiah, in the presence of Registrar (Evaluation) Prof. M.G. Manjunath and Finance Officer C.P. Sowmyashree.
Profile
Prof. Ramakrishnaiah, who is also a theatre person, is the Senior Professor of Performing Arts Department at Bangalore University. A native of Gowribidanur taluk in Chikkaballapur district, he is a Ninasam Graduate and holds MA in Drama from Bangalore University, besides Ph.D. He has a vast teaching experience of 25 years.
Also an actor and theatre director, Prof. Ramakrishnaiah has written four plays and published them. In the year 2011, he was awarded Karnataka Nataka Academy State Fellowship and in 2017, he was bestowed with the State Nataka Academy Award.
Previous VC
Prof. Nagesh Bettakote had served as the VC of Music University from Jan. 22, 2021, whose tenure came to an end on Jan. 22, 2025. However, he continued as the in-charge VC, with extension twice, till the appointment of the regular VC in Prof. Ramakrishnaiah.
