May 12, 2026

Guwahati: Himanta Biswa Sarma took oath as Assam Chief Minister for the second consecutive term at the swearing-in ceremony held at Khanapara Veterinary College Field this morning.

Governor Lakshman Prasad Acharya administered the oath of office and secrecy to Sarma in the presence of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union Home Minister Amit Shah, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, Union Minister Sarbananda Sonowal and BJP National President Nitin Nabin, along with over 40 NDA Chief Ministers and Deputy Chief Ministers.

Four Ministers, including leaders from key NDA allies, have also been sworn in as the BJP-led Government for a third consecutive term. They include Rameswar Teli, Atul Bora (AGP), Charan Boro (BPF) and Ajanta Neog. Several prominent religious leaders, including 15 Satradhikars from Assam’s Vaishnavite monasteries, also attended the event.

The National Democratic Alliance (NDA) returned to power for a third consecutive term, securing 102 seats in the 126-member Assam Legislative Assembly. The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) emerged as the dominant force with 82 seats, while its allies — the Asom Gana Parishad (AGP) and the Bodoland People’s Front (BPF) —won 10 seats each.
