Radiology facilities must reach the poor and rural-folk: Dr. B. Dinesh

Mysore/Mysuru: “Radiology is a vital part of the health sector. It is also of much help in Cardiology Department and diagnosis of heart diseases,” said Dr. B. Dinesh, Director of Sri Jayadeva Institute of Cardiovascular Sciences and Research.

He was speaking after inaugurating ‘Dr. Gyan P. Lal CME-2026’ organised jointly by Indian Radiological and Imaging Association, Karnataka Chapter and Indian College of Radiology Imaging, at Jayadeva Hospital on KRS Road here recently.

Pointing out that Radiology is supplemental to almost all Medical Departments, he said at present, Radiology is not just limited to analysing and understanding images. The Radiologists of today play a key role in accurate diagnosis of diseases, he noted.

Stating that the number of Radiologists is less when compared to the country’s population, Dr. Dinesh said AI (Artificial Intelligence) has made its way into the medical field as well.

Noting that the world is witnessing a rapid change with advancements and innovations in Science and Technology, he said, at the same time, it is important to see that the benefits of such advancements reach the poor and rural areas of the country.

“At present, there are 8 Radiologists in Jayadeva Hospital. There are ultra-modern CT, MRI and ultrasound scanning facilities in the Hospital. Every day, 30 to 40 Angiograms are being conducted. This apart, about 2,000 patients undergo open heart surgery and more than 200 Cathlab process is being conducted in the Hospital on an average every day,” Dr. Dinesh said adding that 600 more beds have been added at Jayadeva Hospital over the past 6 months.

Rajith, Dr. Veena Nanjappa, Dr. Srinidhi, Harish Kumar, Chandrakamala and others were present.
