Three-day Flute Festival in memory of T.R. Mahalingam

Mysore/Mysuru: Sri Nadabrahma Sangeetha Sabha, in association with Sri Thyagaraja Sangeetha Sabha and T.R. MahalingamSamsmaranaVedike, will be organising a three-day Music Festival in memory of T.R. Mahalingam at its auditorium on JLB Road in city from  May 29 to 31, daily at 6 pm.

May 29: Flute Concert by Vid. Mysore A. Chandankumar, accompanied by Vid. H.N. Bhaskar on violin, Vid. Arjunkumar on mridanga and Vid. Shrinidhi R. Koundinya on ghata.

May 30: Flute Concert by Vid. Rakesh Sudhir, accompanied by Vid. M.D. Arjun on violin and Vid. Pranav Subrahmanya on mridanga.

May 31: Conferring of ‘Venu Brahma’ title and felicitation to senior flautist, Vid. M.K. Pranesh, followed by his flute concert. He will be accompanied by Vid. Achyutha Rao on violin, Vid. H.L. ShivashankarSwamy on mridanga and Vid. V.S. Ramesh on morching.

Artistes’ profile

Vid. Mysore Chandankumar, a disciple of Vid. M. Gopalakrishna, was further guided by Padma Bhushan P.S. Narayanaswamy. An ‘A’ graded artiste of AIR, hailing from a music family and being the great grandson of Mysore T. Chowdiah, he is credited with several accolades such as ‘Pt. UstadBismilla Khan YuvaPuraskar’ from SNA, awards for best concerts from Madras Music Academy, Ananya, Bengaluru, Karnataka GanakalaParishat, Bharat Kalachar and NaradaGanasabha, Chennai.

Vid. Rakesh Sudhir had rigorous training in flute under the tutelage of Vid. A.V. Prakash, in vocal music under Vidu. H.N. Rajalakshmi and in violin under Vid. H.K. Narasimhamurthy. He has performed at Madras Music Academy, NaradaGanasabha, Chennai and Nada Neeranjana, Tirupati, with his guru. He trains youngsters in flute and is Founder of Studio SwaraMadhura. He has earned the acclaims of both rasikas and scholars.

Vid. M.K. Pranesh exhibited his musical talent very early and his musician mother initiated him into music. On observing his passion for flute he was put under the tutelage of Vid. M.R. Doreswamy.

He is an ‘A Graded’ artiste of AIR and DD and has participated in South Zone concerts and National SangeethSammelans of Akashvani and Doordarshan besides having performed in major centres in India and abroad. He has been honoured with prestigious music awards.
