Huge tree in front of DC’s official residence uproots; sewage overflows from manhole at V.V. Mohalla

Mysuru, June 2 (PM&BS)- The Cultural Capital Mysuru received mixed rainfall accompanied by heavy wind yesterday afternoon, with the incidents of trees falling down to the ground in full or part, witnessed in prominent localities.

Following the wind, a huge tree standing on the footpath in front of Deputy Commissioner’s official residence, opposite Kalamandira, uprooted and fell on Mysuru-Hunsur Main Road, at around 4 pm. As the traffic was minimal at that time, there was neither any casualties nor damage to any vehicle, much to the relief of authorities concerned.

The uproot of the tree was caused by its weak roots. While the branches of the tree, which was tall in height, occupied the whole of the road horizontally, blocking regular traffic, forcing V.V. Puram Traffic Police to act swiftly, by diverting vehicles to interior roads.

The Abhaya staff of Mysuru City Corporation (MCC), who were summoned to the spot, removed the blockade in an hour-long operation, resuming the traffic at around 5 pm.

The branches of trees fell at Vivekananda Road in Yadavagiri, Hebbal, Vijayanagar 3rd Stage, Gokulam Main Road and other places, which were cleared on a warfooting by Abhaya staff.

By afternoon, the weather was cloudy, with the increase in wind velocity. The cloud burst indicated the downpour anytime, catching many off guard.

As anticipated, it began to rain, with heavy rainfall witnessed in some parts of the city including Nazarbad and Vijayanagar 3rd Stage and drizzling in other parts of the city, till the rain stopped after sometime.

The cloudy weather prevailed till night hours, but there was no recurrence in rainfall.

Near Mathrumandali Circle in V.V. Mohalla, the clogging in underground drainage (UGD) network caused by stormwater, resulted in sewage water overflowing from the manhole, inconveniencing vehicle goers.
