De-Addiction Centres must register under KPME Act: DC

June 25, 2026

Mysuru: Deputy Commissioner (DC) G. Lakshmikanth Reddy has said that it is mandatory for all the De- Addiction Centres in the district to register under Karnataka Private Medical Establishments Act (KPMEA) or else action will be initiated against such centres within the ambit of law.

Chairing the District-level Narco Coordination Committee meeting at ZP Hall in city yesterday, he issued clear directions to take action against illegally functioning De-Addiction Centres.

“It is compulsory for all De-Addiction Centres to register under KPMEA. Those functioning without getting registered under due process of law should be identified and issued notice,” he said.

Reddy directed officers to take stringent action against medical stores selling medicines over the counter without a doctor’s prescription.  To avoid selling those drugs that may lead to addiction, Health and Family Welfare Department should jointly operate with Department of Drug Control.

SP Mallikarjun Baladandi said, ‘Operation against drugs is focused more in forest areas bordering H.D.  Kote taluk as chances of growing ganja there are high.’

Additional SP C. Mallick said, awareness programmes against drugs and substance abuse, are being organised at taluk jails along with schools and colleges.

District Health Officer Dr. P.C. Kumaraswamy and officials of various departments were present.
