Keralam: A major landslide hit key tunnel project in Keralam’s Wayanad district of Keralam this morning.
The landslide occurred in Meenakshi area of Wayanad district, in which several people working at the site of the under-construction Kozhikode-Wayanad twin tunnel project, are feared to have been trapped.
Meenakshi is just 4-km away from Chooralmala, one of the worst hit villages of the devastating 2024 massive landslides that killed more than 300 people and wiped out two villages.
Wayanad has been witnessing torrential rains since Monday morning. NDRF teams, which have been camping in Wayanad, rushed to the spot and began rescue operations.
The construction of the tunnel, costing Rs. 2,134 crore and launched in August last year, has been underway from both the sides, in Wayanad and Kozhikode. The tunnel will be connected to Kozhikode-Mysuru NH 766 and is expected to improve North Keralam’s road connectivity with neighbouring Karnataka.
