Mystic’s Musings By Sadhguru – Founder, Isha Foundation

Sadhguru shares 6 simple yet powerful meditation tips to assist people who are struggling to meditate or beginning the process. The tips are meant to create inner peace, command over the mind and awareness, leading to a deeper relationship with oneself and better well-being and spiritual growth.

Meditation is a practice that helps with enhanced attention and awareness because it also allows detachment from discursive thinking (the chatter and noise of your mind) in order to achieve a state of mental clarity and emotional calm.

Over time, from practising meditation regularly, you may gain a better understanding of yourself and the world around you, allowing you to experience more emotional and physical resilience and well-being.

With that well-being, you will eventually notice that you can respond to challenges differently, with less effort and more ease. Through the process of mindful attention, meditation promotes a way that fosters greater overall emotional and mental health. Meditation presents real benefits both at the moment and in your everyday life, even impacting relationships positively.

However, certain people struggle with meditating in the beginning. They find it difficult to concentrate and meditate. The Founder of Isha Foundation and Yoga Mystic Sadhguru Jaggi Vasudev has shared some important tips for meditation that can be employed by any individual struggling to meditate or for someone who is starting their meditation journey. These effective tips might additionally help in mastering the mind and one’s consciousness.

1. Focus On Stillness

When you are able to still your body through physical practices or asanas that are practised in hatha yoga, you will usually calm your mind through this body stillness. Determine how much you move unnecessarily and try to learn to be still, where stillness is what you need to have and achieve mental clarity and peace.

2. Recognise Mind’s Resistance

Your mind disagrees the most when you begin to contemplate meditation. This resistance arises because your mind fears losing control and being still. Please recognise this resistance, it is good to see; stillness is the best way to master your mind and allow you to become increasingly self-aware.

3. Guide Your Mind

Through meditation, learn to switch master and slave roles between you and your mind. Become the master while your mind becomes your servant. You are in charge and can learn to master the potential of your mind to achieve peace and clarity in daily life.

4. Develop a Favourable Environment

As a plant grows in fertile soil, water and the proper seed, meditation blooms when one develops their inner levels. By developing the proper inner environment, meditation becomes a normal state, making life rich in deep peace and joy.

5. Focus On Inner Growth

Meditation is not an activity, but rather a state of being that occurs when body, mind, energies and feelings attain a particular level of maturity. Developing inner growth fosters a facilitative environment for meditation to blossom naturally, inducing peace and joy.

6. Practice Discipline

Allowing the mind to rule without discipline leads to endless suffering and chaos. Understand that by mastering meditation and self-discipline, you can break free from the mind’s tyranny and cultivate a life of peace, joy and fulfilment, aligned with your true potential.
