Ashada Friday Special Puja at Chamundi Hill: Swachhata shramdan by GP staff

July 11, 2026

Mysuru: A team of Gram Panchayat (GP) staff from all the Gram Panchayats in Mysuru taluk on Thursday did shramdan by taking up Swachhata works, to create awareness about Plastic Free Zone at Chamundi Hill in the city.

The exercise undertaken in view of the forthcoming Ashada Friday Special Puja at the Goddess Chamundeshwari Temple atop Chamundi Hill, was organised by Mysuru Taluk Panchayat in association with Chamundi Hill GP. The staff members sweeped the steps from the foothill, apart from removing the shrubs, plastic, papers, water bottles and other environmentally non-biodegradable wastes.

Executive Officer (EO) of Mysuru Taluk Panchayat  C. Krishna said, it is a practice among the devotees during Ashada Friday Special Puja to take the steps to reach the Hilltop. Hence the Pourakarmikas of all the GPs, officers and staff members, were involved in cleaning works.

Panchayat Development Officer (PDO) of Chamundi Hill GP K. Rukmangada appealed to the public, to join hands in keeping the Hill plastic free and protect the identity and natural beauty of the Hill. The devotees should not carry plastic to the temple and dispose the plastic.

The awareness about Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls was conducted by taking out a jatha targeting tourists, devotees and the public.

EO Krishna said, no eligible voters should be deprived of right to vote. When the Booth Level Officers (BLOs) visit the doorstep, the voters should cooperate with them. Help Desk has been opened at all the GP limits, where the staff will address the queries.

Village Administrative Officer Y.N. Mamatha, Taluk Panchayat staff, Panchayat Development Officers (PDOs) of all the GPs, Secretaries, SDAs, DEOs and Pourakarmikas were involved in Swachhata related works.
