Mysuru: BSS Vidyodaya and RAAGA Music Academy, Mysuru, in association with Samskara Bharathi, will present ‘Bhagini Raaga Saurabha,’ an evening of Karnatak music, featuring a grand vocal concert by Vid. Hemmige S. Prashanth at BSS Vidyodaya in Krishnamurthypuram tomorrow at 6 pm.

He will be accompanied by Vid. S. Janardhan on violin, Vid. A. Radhesh on mridanga and Vid. M. R. Manjunath on ghata.

Vid. Prashanth, an eminent Karnatak vocalist from the historic village of Hemmige near Mysuru, belongs to the illustrious Ariyakudi – K.V. Narayanaswamy tradition of  music.

Grandson of renowned Kannada & Sanskrit scholar Hemmige Deshikachar, he was initiated into music by his parents and received his initial training under Vid. B. S. Radhakrishnan, a prime disciple of Gana Kala Sindhu D. Subbaramaiah.

He subsequently trained under the legendary Padma Shri and Sangeetha Kalanidhi, Palghat K.V. Narayanaswamy and continues to refine his artistry under Padma Narayanaswamy.

He has also received guidance from Sugandha Raman, who belongs to the direct lineage of Saint Tyagaraja.

Renowned for his mellifluous voice, impeccable diction and profound musical expression, he has been conferred the title of ‘Asthana Vidwan’ by Sri Kanchi Kamakoti Peetam, ‘Gana Kala Ratna’ by Sri Sri Rangapriya Maha Deshika Swamy Ashram, Bengaluru, ‘Nallor Virudu’ by Sri Tyagaraja Vidwath Samajam, Chennai and was recognised as one of the ‘Hemmige Achievers’ by the Hemmige Sri Vaishnava Sabha.
