Mysuru: Security arrangements have been stepped up across the city ahead of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit on Aug. 1 to inaugurate the Viveka Smaraka — Swami Vivekananda Cultural Youth Centre (Viveka Memorial), built by Sri Ramakrishna Ashram on Narayana Shastri Road in city.

As part of security measures, roads along the PM’s route are being barricaded. Barricades were erected on both sides of JLB Road this morning to prevent public access while the PM’s convoy passes through the stretch.

Preparations are also underway at the Oval Grounds, where markings are being made for the helicopter carrying the Prime Minister to land safely.

Meanwhile, the Mysuru City Corporation (MCC) has intensified civic works along the route. Roads are being asphalted, while flowering and ornamental plants are being planted along medians to enhance the city’s appearance.

Decorative lamp posts, serial LED lighting and floral electric illuminations have been installed on Narayana Shastri Road. Kerb stones have been repainted and the compound wall of Maharani’s PU College, which had remained unpainted for years, has been given a fresh coat of paint.

The Commercial Tax Office premises are also being renovated with a heritage-style façade. Footpaths are levelled, damaged paving stones replaced and fresh stone slabs laid. Road resurfacing is also underway around Dasappa Circle and on KRS Road.

MCC Commissioner M.K. Savitha, accompanied by Superintending Engineer Sindhu, Zonal Development Officers Sathyamurthy and Jagadish, inspected the ongoing works yesterday. She directed officials to ensure quality is maintained in all the civic works being taken up ahead of the Prime Minister’s visit.
