Mysuru: The Viveka Smaraka, established by Sri Ramakrishna Ashram, should function not merely as a symbolic structure but as an institution that guides and inspires the younger generation, Suttur Mutt Seer Sri Shivarathri Deshikendra Swamiji said.

He was speaking at ‘Viveka Smaraka – Smruti Samsmarana’ held at the Viveka Smaraka – Amphitheatre on Narayana Shastri Road on Saturday.

Describing the Smaraka as a centre for nurturing self-confidence, moral values and patriotism among youth, the Seer said, it was a meaningful contribution to society. Built to familiarise young people with the life and teachings of Swami Vivekananda, the centre would play an important role in shaping responsible citizens, he added.

Praising the facilities at the Smaraka, the Seer said that every section of the building had been thoughtfully designed to meet contemporary needs while promoting Vivekananda’s philosophy and message.

Character building

District Minister Dr. Yathindra Siddaramaiah said, Sri Ramakrishna Ashram has been working tirelessly to spread Swami Vivekananda’s ideals across the world. He expressed confidence that the Viveka Smaraka would continue to inspire society while promoting value-based education, leadership, character building and spiritual awareness among students and youth.

Recalling that the Ashram had overcome several political and legal hurdles to realise the project, Dr. Yathindra said, he was pleased to be associated with the inauguration of the Youth Centre.

He also noted that he had made efforts to secure a State Government grant of Rs. 3 crore for the construction of the Smaraka and hoped it would emerge as a guiding force for the younger generation in building a responsible and value-based society.

Sri Ramakrishna Ashram Mysuru President Swami Muktidanandaji said, the centre would serve as a comprehensive platform for youth development. Programmes focusing on personality development, character building and moral values would be organised regularly, he said.

“Swami Vivekananda’s teachings should not remain confined to school and college textbooks. They must be studied in depth and taken to the younger generation through sustained programmes and activities,” he said.

The programme also featured bhajans and Sadhu Seva. Swami Yukteshanandaji, Swami Mahipalanandaji, RV Educational Institutions President M.P. Shyam, former Corporator D. Nagabhushan and others were present.
