The recurring menace of stray cattle on M.G. Road, Mysuru, has once again become a serious public safety concern.

Despite repeated complaints and assurances from the Mysuru City Corporation (MCC), cattle continue to roam freely on this busy road near its junction from JSS Hospital to Mall of Mysore.

This is not merely a nuisance. It is a serious accident hazard for motorists and pedestrians, particularly two-wheeler riders. It is unacceptable that citizens continue to face this risk despite the authorities being repeatedly alerted.

In the past this problem has been highlighted by both the public through various platforms and also by the authorities about assurance of taking action.

Repeated assurances without effective and sustained action reflect a clear failure of enforcement and accountability on the part of the MCC officials. Temporary drives are not enough.

The authorities must identify and penalise cattle owners who allow their animals to stray onto public roads, with stricter action against repeat offenders.

At the same time, accountability must extend to the authorities. If a problem repeatedly returns despite complaints and official assurances, responsibility must be fixed for the failure to prevent it.

The officials responsible for maintaining roads must be taken to task by the public for repeatedly failing to carry out this task efficiently for years together now.

Mysuru deserves better civic administration. The time for assurances is over; citizens need visible, strict and sustained action before this preventable menace results in a serious accident or loss of life.
