Monsoon Session of State Legislature from tomorrow

Bengaluru: The Monsoon Session of the Karnataka State Legislature will take place here from tomorrow (Aug. 13). The Session will sit for 10 working days till Aug. 27.

Senior Congress MLA from Sira T.B. Jayachandra is the Pro-Tem Speaker of the State Assembly and he will continue until the formal election of the newly named Speaker.

G.S. Patil, Congress MLA from Rona in Gadag, is the ruling Congress party’s choice for the Assembly Speaker post.

This will be the first Session for D.K. Shivakumar as the Chief Minister after he took over as the CM on June 3.

The discussions during the 10-day Session are expected to focus heavily on State Cabinet expansion, Portfolio allocation and regional concerns such as Cauvery river water sharing dispute with Tamil Nadu, the execution of Mekedatu balancing reservoir project and local governance matters.

The Opposition BJP-JD(S) combine on its part have signalled plans to jointly challenge the ruling administration on key policy implementation and governance issues.
